First of all do you have SP2 installed? If not, install it. It is also a good idea to install the June cumulative update. Assuming your version of Project is fully updated, tell us more about the subtasks under the summary line in question. Are they all auto-scheduled? Are there any milestone? Look at the Actual Duration field, for each subtask and the summary line, it’s value should equal the value in the Duration field.

If not, which one is not the same? Do you have calculation set to automatic? Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Each subtask and each summary task Duration and Actual Duration are the same. Calculate project after each edit is turned Off, I do calculate the project often as I am making updates. In the middle on the right hand side click on “Additional version and copyright information”. At the top of the About Microsoft Project window you will see the full version description.

What does that show? First of all, turn on automatic calculation. Does that update all summary tasks? Does it now update? Yes, I do have a single resource at the Summary task level.

This is the resource responsible for the overall effort and they are participating on every sub-task. There are many other resources associated to individual sub-tasks.

Your file configuration says you have SP2 installed but no cumulative updates thereafter. Your problem is most likely due to having a resource assigned to the summary line. Re-assign that resource and I think you problem will disappear. Whether it is the cause of the current problem or not, do not ever assign resources to summaries. If so, this usually means that you have failed to mark one or more milestone tasks as complete.

If you see any tasks other than the summary tasks, those are the tasks you missed. Just an additional thought, as the others have all given you good ideas to try. Hope this helps. Can you please check all records are selected by going to each filter. So you definitely have your version of Project updated with the latest service pack, there are no resources assigned to summary lines, there are no incomplete milestones under the summary, calculation is set to automatic, all tasks are auto-scheduled, you have no sort or grouping applied and no tasks are hidden by a filter.

Is that correct? Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. Have tried everything I can think of to change settings. Just does not make sense!! This thread is locked. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. In reply to John – Project’s post on November 3, Not sure how to tell Version is Not sure how to tell if this has been done Assuming your version of Project is fully updated, tell us more about the subtasks under the summary line in question.

Yes Are there any milestone? Thank you for your help!! If the above does not fix it, do you have any resource assigned to summary tasks? Microsoft Project Did not change anything Trevor Rabey. Reasons: Summaries are not tasks, they are just a way of organising the tasks. Resources on summaries will cause un-resolvable over-allocation. Many others. I have this same exact issue and have looked at all of the suggestions listed and none have worked for me. What is the resolution here?

In reply to aa’s post on November 19, AA, So you definitely have your version of Project updated with the latest service pack, there are no resources assigned to summary lines, there are no incomplete milestones under the summary, calculation is set to automatic, all tasks are auto-scheduled, you have no sort or grouping applied and no tasks are hidden by a filter. Is the problem only with one summary line or all the summary lines in your file? How big is your file?

If necessary would you be able to send it to me? This site in other languages x.
