Beware the box comes with the license key only, no software. If you follow the instructions to download Parallels you will be directed to download the latest version 15 which will not install on El Capitan and is the yearly subscription version. I was able to find an unadulterated version 13 package online from a different website. Downloaded and installed without any issues.

It even went and fetched the latest patch for version 13 from Parallels. Applied license key and Voila! Purchased Windows 10 Pro from Amazon, downloaded the iso file and installed the vm from Parallels. Applied the Windows license during the installation of Windows. Everything is working although the vm is a bit slow, probably due to my old hardware. Highly recommended. It’s the simplest-to-setup option for running Windows on a Mac.

I truly recommend Parallels Desktop if you are not a PC expert like me. This seems to be a big improvement over previous releases of this product. It is not as resource hungry as the older versions. It makes going back and forth between Mac and Windows programs on my MacBook Pro feel completely seamless.

I have to keep reminding myself that I’m working in a Windows program on my Mac. I don’t detect any lag or freezes. When Windows is loaded, there are several ways you can run Windows on your Mac.

You can have Parallels load up as an app, and Windows 10 can be confined to a window on your desktop, or you can operate Coherence mode, which makes Windows 10 virtually invisible on your Mac. This year, with version 13, Parallels reps told me that the refresh to adjust the windows size is instantaneous and much quicker. In my experience with prior versions, resizing a Windows window cause the screen to temporarily flicker before the new resolution was applied, but this was not the case on Parallels Desktop Text, icons and images are now smoothened to appear less pixelated.

A third way to run Windows is to use Picture-in-Picture mode. There are plenty of under the hood changes as well, and Parallels promises that there is a percent improvement when connecting an external Thunderbolt SSD, allowing for near-native performance. Overall, working with Windows files is now 47 percent faster and USB devices gain a 40 percent improvement with Parallels Desktop Parallels also supports more OpenGL apps this year.

Go figure! Interesting product. I have a Mac and this was relatively easy to install and set up. The operation has been flawless. Interestingly, and unknown to me when I ordered it, is that it includes some kind of Windows 10 with it. I say some kind because when I used the Windows it frequently popped with a message that it was in illegal or unauthorized copy or something like that. I was planning on buying Windows anyway and did and no more issues.

But I really like this and if you have a Mac and a need for Windows this is an easy decision. I have my first Mac and I heard that I could run windows at the same time using Parallels.

There is a program available with the Mac but I understand from others that it is much more cumbersome. Just remember if you are using this on Mac you need to also purchase Windows 10, which is also very easy to install.
