Downtown Invermere Getting a Face Lift.

New changes are coming for downtown Invermere in mid-May. The District of Invermere (DOI)obtained two significant grants to revitalization downtown from 7th Avenue from the AG foods / Inside Edge intersection to the Cenotaph Park area. The photo below shows the location.

Downtown Invermere Revitalization – Main components.

  • Increasing space and amenities with public seating areas.
  • Adding street trees for aesthetics and shading.
  • Improving accessibility and pedestrian safety.
  • Curb replacement.
  • Select sidewalk replacement with refreshed paver inlays.
  • Upgraded electrical and Street lighting.
  • Pedestrian-scale directional. 
  • Information signage.
  • New irrigation for our beautiful downtown flower gardens and baskets.

Funding for downtown Invermere.

District of Invermere received $500,000 from the Columbia Basin Trust. The other funding came from the Province of British Columbia as part of the Tourism Dependent Communities Initiative program. DOI received $700,000 from this program. 

Project team doing the work

Urban Systems Ltd (USL) has got the contract to complete the work. USL has done a previous job with the District of Invermere. USL has done revitalization work from Pothole park and 7th Ave (entrance to Downtown)

Dates and Times

The construction hours will generally fall between 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday to Sunday. 

Start in Mid May and hope to be completed by July 1st. However, it will finish after September long weekend if there is still some work to be done. 

Pedestrian access 

The District of Invermere will try to maintain pedestrian access on sidewalks. However, there will be periodic disruptions due to the upgrades and to maintenance COVID-19 distancing protocols.

Roadway / Parking

Vehicle access on 7th Ave will remain open during construction, and street parking will continue to be available on 7th Avenue. Short-term parking closures will be required but minimal in duration; most disruptions will occur during the curb removal and replacement works.
